We’re proud that our wealth management company is rated 4.8 out of 5 and this demonstrates our commitment to providing a highly personalised approach to financial planning for you and your family.

Our approach to wealth management

We do not view wealth management as simply about your investments; our approach incorporates advanced financial planning and ongoing relationship management to maximise the probability that you achieve all that is important to you.

To ascertain the best possible way to add value and clarity to your current situation and address your future needs, we invite you to participate in our wealth management consultative process.

How we work

Our regular progress meetings consider your wealth enhancement, wealth transfer, wealth protection and issues that are important to you.

Investment reviews and financial progress advice

We use administrative platforms or ‘wraps’ that provide you with numerous benefits including being able to view your consolidated financial assets in one location.

We address your advanced planning needs at our regular progress meetings which will consider your wealth enhancement, wealth transfer, wealth protection and and any other relevant issues such as charitable giving.

Additional specialist skills may sometimes be required to complement our own and we have put together a team of carefully selected professionals, each with a high level of expertise in a key financial area. Access to this professional network ensures that your requirements are always fastidiously dealt with.

The Walden Capital wealth management service combines the latest in cutting-edge technology with highly qualified, experienced professionals. By building long-term relationships with our clients, we can advise and guide you on a growing number of financial matters. Appreciative that all clients differ; the initial consultation will identify your fundamental aspirations, values, needs and concerns.

Taking a structured and disciplined approach to investment, we will look at risk profiles, future cash flow projections, and investment options; all focused on your long-term goals. Using a range of managed model portfolios with seven risk categories, we can adapt this approach to your changing lifestyle. Rest assured, you are in safe hands, with our team available to answer any questions or queries you may have going forward.

Advice fees are not tax deductible. Costs of buying or selling assets can be claimable against capital gains tax (CGT), but only where they directly relate to the sale or purchase. One area where tax efficiency is available is where advice fees are paid from a registered pension, they are effectively paid from gross earnings due to the pension tax relief received on contributions, however, this can only be utilised for advice related to retirement planning. Advice fees may be assessable for VAT depending on whether they are bundled together with non-VATable goods or services, of which a good example would be the arrangement of a regulated investment product.

A ‘wrap’ platform is simply a regulated custodian of your investments that focuses on providing excellent administration and reporting, and access to a wide range of third party investment solutions within different tax wrappers rather than providing investment funds themselves.

Generally speaking, an investment manager will focus on growing and enhancing a ‘pot of money’ with no input from you about your wider financial situation. Whereas a financial adviser will be looking to provide holistic advice to you about your goals and aspirations and will be more aware of the appropriate tax wrappers and planning strategies to achieve these.

A financial adviser may not typically be an investment expert, and if they do not have in-house investment expertise they may outsource investment solutions which may have additional costs attached. Some financial advisers, like Walden Capital, have the expertise to manage your wealth and thus offer the complete package of advice, covering your personal situation as well as your investment goals.

Most people focus on performance, but it’s a lot trickier to analyse than you’d think – since some firms take risks that make them look good if they pay off, but might not be repeated. Service, quality of advice, and cost are the most important considerations. When analysing cost consider every element, not just headline comparisons, as less obvious costs can dwarf the headline number.

There are usually three tiers of costs when working with a financial adviser – the underlying investments have a cost, which will typically be built into the price of your investment fund, and whilst important is not always immediately obvious.  Then there are the platform or product charges, which relate to the custody of your money and investments, tracking your tax position, performance reporting, and general administration. Finally the cost of advice, which relates to the advice you receive, and any face to face service you have selected, for example, your annual review.  A typical advice cost might be up to 1% per annum, although at Walden Capital we recognise that fees are important, and work hard to keep advice costs lower than this.

Everyone’s situation changes over time, sometimes very quickly.  One of the benefits of working with a financial planner is that change is built into the plan! Change can be a real worry, but knowing that your plan is robust, and can be adapted to reflect evolving circumstances should provide some often-needed reassurance that it’s going to be OK!
