Mikki Gant

BA (Hons) DipPFS

Financial Planner

Having graduated with a First-class Honours degree in European Business and Spanish I always knew I wanted to pursue a career in finance. I started training as an accountant but quickly realised that I wanted a greater interaction with individuals rather than corporates and to be able to create a meaningful positive impact on people’s lives.

Living in Thaxted, Essex I began looking locally for a financial planning firm to join that had achieved chartered status. This means that the firm must adhere to the highest ethical values, the advisers must be qualified to chartered status themselves and employees must receive continued professional development. These firms are few and far between, but I found Walden Capital in Saffron Walden who offered me the position of paraplanner and outlined a career path to becoming a financial adviser. Besides providing technical and administrative support to the advisers I quickly realised I had made the right decision because of the interaction and rapport I was building with our clients.

Developing Technical Expertise

My professional development then continued at pace with Walden Capital funding all my required study to enable me to qualify as a Level 4 DipPFS financial planner. Taking this a stage further I have now nearly completed all my exams to become a Chartered financial planner which will provide me with greater levels of technical expertise to help our clients with the increasingly complex issues of investing, retirement planning, estate planning and tax law.

Working with clients to bring their plans to fruition has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. My specialities are working with those who have recently divorced, and need support on working through their pension options, and those recently bereaved who may be worried about making the most of their financial position. The responsibility and pressure of doing this on your own, particularly for women who have had very little involvement in financial affairs can be daunting and unnecessary when advice and support is available.

A Personal Note

I have recently celebrated my 5th anniversary with Walden Capital and was delighted to receive a huge hamper from Fortnum and Mason! When I am not studying, I am planning my next travel adventure or trying to keep fit!

Developing the Women and Wealth Events

My colleague Zoe and I have recently initiated a programme of Women and Wealth events in Saffron Walden to bring together like-minded individuals to network and discuss various topics of interest.
