If you owe your bank a hundred pounds, you have a problem. But if you owe a million, it has.
Following the first Budget from Chancellor Hammond, please find some useful commentary on how the changes might affect you.
We feel that overall it is very much a budget of 'continue as we are' with the notable exception of looking to euqalise the tax treatment of the self employed and employed. The UK has a vibrant entrepreneurial economy, and much of that is becuase of the low cost of starting a self employed business. By bringing the tax treatment of the self employed in line with the employed many commentators think this may threaten the status quo. Others have pointed out that the very lowest earners will actually pay less under the new rules, so perhaps this will promote growth further - only time will tell.
