Politics and Investing

When it comes to the great referendum of 2016 - 'to Brexit or not to Brexit' there are plenty of commentators, and lots of commentary, and regardless of the outcome in 21 days time the bruises caused by some of the more vitriolic claims are likely to linger.  So it is with genuine pleasure that we can present an Australian, Jim Parker, Vice President at Dimensional Fund Advisers, who has something to say on the issue which is measured and rational.  Dimensional's research often focuses on the impact of events on markets, and whether there is any persistent influence that can be captured to provide better long term returns.  In this article political influences are examined, to see whether it is a good idea to stay out of the market or go into the market in times of political change, or if instead ignoring the politics, and doing what you were going to do anyway is the right course of action.
