Pokémon Investing

I don't know about you, but my kids are collecting Pokémon like crazy at the moment, in the hope of finding a 'special' one.  Here Jim Parker, Vice President at Dimensional Fund Advisors compares collecting the diminuitive Japanese imaginary creatures to trying to out perform the market by picking 'winning' stocks.  The cost (literal, and opportunity), and difficulty of doing so consistently and effectively is surprisingly analogous to trying to track down a rogue Snorlax or Dragonite.  If your portfolio consists of Pokémon or the 'next big thing'; you're probably not going to get (or stay) rich with it.  A diversifed, market based and disciplined approach is demonstrably better.
