What a very fine year!
2023 was a special year for us; it was Walden Capital’s 10th anniversary and my 60th birthday amongst other things! We held a fabulous celebratory summer event hiring the Audley End Miniature Railway complex on one of the hottest days of the year which was attended by over 150 of our wonderful clients.
We welcomed a record number of new clients to Walden Capital in 2023, whom along with the excellent ongoing performance of our model portfolios helped the firm grow the assets we advise on by 20% during a turbulent year.
Our investment performance
Our 7 model portfolios performed strongly yet again during 2023. We always want our clients to have the assurance that our own investment performance compliments our financial advice, and this is why we use external verification from ARC*. Providing ARC with a decade’s worth of historical data the resulting analysis (https://www.waldencapital.co.uk/strategy/model-portfolios/) confirms the aptitude of our investment committee in delivering consistent risk management. Over time we have captured the returns commensurate with risks taken, with excellent long-term performance as a consequence. Of course, any performance data is historical, may not be repeated, is not a reliable indicator of future results and investors may not get back the full amount invested.
Our charitable commitment
In 2024 we will be supporting the Saffron Walden Almshouses charity who provide homes for local people of modest means and low income. Our very own senior adviser John Stirling will be running the London marathon to raise money on their behalf – if you would like to know more about them, please visit www.swalmshouse.org. We’ll let you know when his JustGiving page is live, please support if you can. We will also be donating £50 on behalf of every new client who joins us this year.
What’s new for 2024?
As a growing business we need to ensure that our operations and technical teams continue to support you in the way you have come to expect, so our headcount will be increasing. We are also very excited to announce the launch of our new client portal app MyWaldenCapital for your use, in conjunction with moneyinfo – a specialist UK technology provider who design apps for wealth managers. This will start to be rolled out in Q2, look out for further postings.
The App will enable you to communicate securely with us and have your own area in which you can customise and store all manner of important documents besides providing valuations of your financial plans. It’s another step towards eliminating all paper communication for those who want to simplify their lives.
Although not new for 2024, this year we are stepping up our commitment to expanding the role of women within financial services with our ‘Women in Wealth’ initiative, as this is an exciting development for us, and I think something that genuinely differentiates us at our scale. Look out for further events to promote equal opportunity and access to financial advice.
Outlook for 2024
2024 looks like being yet another challenging year on the world stage with elections, wars and a volatile global economy. What’s new?! Personally, I hope for some more positive news from the awful conflicts around the world, less pressure on the cost of living and falling interest rates.
Clearly, we don’t possess a crystal ball at Walden Capital, so I won’t make any bold predictions. Financial planning and risk-based investment is a long-term undertaking to help you realise your life goals and deal with life’s shocks and surprises as they arise. We endeavour to help take that worry off your shoulders by providing an inspired, bespoke and assured service.
If you’re a client of Walden Capital then thank you, if you’re not, why not?, and do get in touch if you have any questions.
Very best wishes for the year ahead.
